Shivaun’s Approach to Osteopathy

Shivaun’s approach to osteopathy suits young and old, fit and not so fit. She sees her role as an osteopath as helping people to improve and maintain the best physical health their age and physical challenges will allow. She sees the body as a self-healing mechanism, which can sometimes get “stuck” and may need a helping hand from time to time.

Along with treating musculoskeletal disorders, sports and activity related injuries and pain, Shivaun has a strong interest in women’s health and breathing pattern disorders.

An important part of Shivaun’s practice is ongoing training. She has completed courses in the following areas:

  • Sports Massage for Osteopaths
  • Breathing Pattern Retraining
  • Pregnancy Care
  • Cranial Function – Diagnosis and Treatment

Shivaun’s Story

Shivaun always had an interest in complementary health therapy but never imagined giving up a career in IT until she discovered osteopathy.

Following the birth of her first daughter, she suffered back and and leg pain. She tried many different treatments which give her no or shortlived relief. After 9 months of pain, a family friend recommended osteopathy.

Finally, something that really worked. After the 1st session, she felt a weight had been lifted from her back. She then had 3 more sessions closely spaced and a few more spread out over weeks and months. She also had a couple of osteopathic treatments during pregnancy as a precaution.

Then when her daughter of 2 yrs of age, was successfully treated for chronic, recurrent coughs and colds by the osteopath, she decided this was the career for her. She was initially attracted to structured, logical and mechanical approach of osteopathy to the human body.

Over a number years, she has come to experience the importance of the good mechanics of the body in general health and well-being.
