As your Child Grows – Toddlers to Teens at The Winton Practice
As your child grows and particularly when it first starts at a crèche or school, we know that they often just pick up things that just won’t shift. And they may develop other illnesses such as Asthma, recurring stomach upsets, or just general unsettlement.
And as they then get older and start to participate in sports and other activities they more than likely will get a couple of bruises and injuries. Treating these injuries with osteopathy sooner rather than later, may ensure that lingering injuries won’t cause structural problems later in teens or adulthood.
From toddlers, to tweens and teenagers, we know we can help with:
- Chest infections and asthma
- Supporting children through critical illness
- Ear infections
- Sinus and dental problems
- Growing pains
- Digestive difficulties
- Behavioural problems and learning difficulties
- Poor concentration
- Just not themselves
- Emotional stress
- Anxiety
- Sensitivity
- Falls and accidents
- Developmental delay
- Sports injuries
- Recovery from critical illnes
Compression of the head, back and diaphragm and chest while a baby is in the womb may eventually lead to children experiencing neck ache, growing pains, and possibly even local circulatory problems or digestive disorders.
Also during birth, the head is compressed and a long or difficult birth with intervention takes even more of a toll on the baby’s head, neck and spine.
From experience, we know that osteopathy is extremely effective for treating:
- Teething
- Plagiochephaly
- Neck strain or Torticolis
- Wind
- Colic
- Glue ear
- Feeding Difficulties
- Reflux and vomiting
- Unsettled and fractious
- Constant crying
- Poor sleep patterns

Children with learning and developmental difficulties
At the Winton Practice we also regularly see children with long term problems; we help these children to be as well as possible and function to their fullest ability with whatever health issues they have.
We help with alleviating their symptoms and making them easier to manage. We know that treatment doesn’t cure the condition but we know we can help the children function better within the conditions they have.
We help children with
- Autism and Asperger’s syndrome
- Dyslexia and Dyspraxia
- ADH
- Epilepsy
- Cerebral Palsy
- Down’s Syndrome
TODDLERS AND CHILDREN – We need see a child’s whole back and spine and examine their gait and so they need to undress down to their underwear.
TEENAGERS – May wish to wear shorts and girls may also prefer to wear a crop top.
How soon after birth can I bring my baby for treatment?
As soon as possible – it is never too early to treat your baby.
We can often resolve birth trauma in your baby, which can prevent strain patterns becoming established. These may be causing common ailments such as colic and fretfulness which we know are exhausting and worrying for all new Moms.
Parents consult paediatric osteopaths for various reasons. Some parents bring their newborns ‘just for a check up’, others because they have been recommended by their health visitor, GP, or friends or because their newborn has had a difficult or long birth.
What should my baby wear for treatment?
We like to see a baby or child’s entire body. So expect your baby to be undressed down to their nappy, but we may also do a quick check of their hip mobility with their nappy off. So something like a baby-gro which is easy to take on and off is a good idea.
